Charles Barkley @ Sneaker Villa Philadelphia

Charles Barkley, the 11-time NBA All Star and winner of 2 Olympic Gold Medals, visited the city where it all started for him, Philadelphia, last Friday for a special speaking engagement. Presented by Nike and hosted by none other than Bobbito Garcia. The event, which took place Sneaker Villa’s South 52nd Street flagship, allowed students from local high school to engaged with the one-time power forward of Philadelphia 76ERS.

Barkley candidly talked about his early years as a rookie, his proudest moments as a player on the Dream Team, and some of his controversial comments. Nike also unveiled 2 sets of Air Forces 1s, all inspired by Barkley’s storied career. The first set, inspired by the his participation in the Dream Team, will be launch end of this month. The second set, followed his career after the 76ERS, will be release early part of December.

Afterwards, Barkley had a private session with the press. Never the one too hold back, Barkley emphasized the need to address much of the social ills plaguing African-Americans today such as black-on-black crime and the lack of priority on education. Added were also few lively debates between Barkley and few reporters present about this season’s New York Knicks lineup.
